St. Vincent de Paul Society
Programs
The St. Vincent de Paul Society offers the hospitality of Jesus by caring for the homeless and the hungry.
Our outreach efforts include emergency assistance, requests for utility cut-offs, eviction notices, security deposits, food, medication and other needs.
Person-to-Person Service
The Conference is committed to serving needy residents of Carroll County, regardless of creed, opinion, race or nationality. The office is open five days per week, manned by trained volunteers. Recognizing that there are various needs and circumstances, volunteers use their best judgment and apply these principles in a spirit of compassion and flexibility.
Adopt-a-Family Program
Conducted during the Christmas season, this program gathers the names of needy individuals and families and provides meals and gifts for them. There are two parts to the program: One is to have parishioners adopt an entire family, wherein they would provide enough food for Christmas dinner plus one week, and an item of clothing for all in the family. Children would, in addition, receive a toy or similar gift. The second part places names of the needy on a Christmas Tree in the narthex of the Church, prior to the first week of December. Parishioners take one or more names, so that everyone receives a gift of food and an article of clothing.
Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen ‑ is an ecumenical endeavor to feed the hungry. St. John Parish is responsible for food, its preparation and service every Wednesday. The kitchen is open Wednesdays from 12 Noon to 12:45 PM at the Ascension Episcopal Church in Westminster. Volunteers are needed 8:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
