I would like to thank the School Board Members for their efforts this year in meeting the goals established at the beginning of this school year. The following activities have been in progress since our last report.

• School Board Governing Document

§         In March and April, the School Board discussed and approved a new Governing Document. This new document defines the membership requirements, structure, and operating approach for the Board in accordance with new guidelines provided by the Archdiocese.  The previous Constitution has been eliminated and the By-Laws have been re-drafted. The Board would like to thank Agnes Geraghty and her committee for completing this important task. A copy of this new document will be provided to the Pastoral Council.

• Technology Plan

§         A Technology Plan for the School was developed and briefly discussed at the March meeting. This plan identifies the technology inventory, curriculum, future plans, and specific recommendations relative to technology planning and capital spending on technology at the school. This document is a starting point designed to initiate discussion related to planning, implementation, and funding for technology initiatives. Parish technology was not reviewed; however the technology infrastructure of the Parish and School is integrated. One of the recommendations is that the plan be extended to incorporate the technology at the Parish which is primarily located at the Parish Center. The Board would like to thank Susan Lakomy, Frank Tontala, and Al Wilder whose assistance was instrumental in completing the plan.

• Full Day Kindergarten

§         The State of Maryland is requiring Full Day Kindergarten starting in the fall of 2007. Some pilot schools in Carroll County will be starting earlier. In May, the Board will be reviewing alternatives and a strategy for Full Day Kindergarten at St. John.
