From the administrator

       

        I thank the many people who attended and worked so hard on the Bull Roast that was held last Saturday, November 11, 2006.  About 140 people were in attendance.  I was sorry I missed it as I had a wedding in the afternoon in Harford County and then attended one of the Basilica reopening events in the evening. 

 

        The handicap ramp in front of the parish office is nearing completion. As of this writing the handrail needs to be installed which hopefully will be complete in a few days.  The outer front doors will not be complete for a few weeks as different framing and glass will be installed.  The front door is accessible now.  I am appreciative for everyone’s patience using the side door, and for rescheduling of meeting rooms. I am grateful to the volunteers who staffed the side door in the 9pm – 9 am shift to greet those who were visiting the Adoration Chapel. 

 

        Next weekend, Christ the King Sunday, the candidates for reception into the Church will be received into the Church and Confirmed at the 11:15 am mass.  We congratulate them on their journey of faith.  The following Sunday, December 3, First Sunday of Advent, Bishop Malooly, our vicar Bishop will preside at the 11:15 mass as we begin the new liturgical year.

The school is participating in the grocery bonus programs for Giant, Martin’s and Safeway. Forms for this program are located at the entrances of the church. Please take a flyer for the appropriate store and fill out the information requested. You can place the forms in the collection basket or drop them off at school during the week. YANKEE CANDLES:  Thank you to everyone who helped with our Yankee Candle Fundraiser. We were able to raise over $4,000. All those who placed orders will be notified as to the exact delivery date, which will be sometime after Thanksgiving.

GOODBYE: A special thanks to Vickie Lehr, who has been one of our faithful core members since we began using the Life Teen program in 1994. Vickie and her husband, Mike, are moving to South Carolina. Life Teen is trying to fill our 2^nd bus!! We leave St. John at 6:00 a.m. and arrive in NYC around 10:00 a.m. & head back at 6 p.m. The day is yours to do what you want. The cost is $55.00 per person.  Call Paul at 410-848-8443 to register.

 

Dec. 15-17 – Life Teen Winter Retreat at Blue Ridge Summit:

Time for our annual winter retreat. Cost is $80 if you register on or before Dec. 3—after that date the cost is $95 – so register now!

ITALY TRIP:  There are still a few openings for our trip next summer, (June 26-July 5^th). You don’t have to be in Life Teen to join us as we travel throughout Italy. HEALTH CARE MINISTRY NEEDS CHRISTMAS GIFTS:

The following items are needed: Kleenex (boxes & pocket size), dish detergent (small) dish cloths, dish towels, pot holders, scotch tape, post-it-notes, hand cream, wet wipes, shampoo, socks, Vaseline, disinfectant hand soap, Chap stick, pens and paper towels.  Please drop off donations at the Parish Center.

 

 

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO WRAP GIFTS FOR SHUT-INS

Every Monday from now until Christmas we will be wrapping gifts from 9-12.  Please help us if you can, if only for an hour.

KNIGHTS ANNUAL MEMORIAL MASS…Tuesday, Nov. 21

The Knights of Columbus will host their Annual Memorial Mass at 7:00 p.m. in remembrance of the faithfully departed members of our Council. Join us for our annual trip to Allenberry Dinner Theater for their great Christmas show. WISDOM CLUB CHRISTMAS PARTY…Thurs., Dec. 14

Come celebrate our first Christmas Party in The Portico.  We will attend Mass at 11:00 a.m. in the Church and then proceed to the Portico, which will be decked out in its Christmas finery. The Committee has prepared a wonderful program. Lunch by Harry's Caterers, exchange of gifts, entertainment by a choir from Carroll Community College and installation of officers. Please don't miss this opportunity to start the holidays in style. Price $23.00 for members and $25.00 for non-members. Each person should bring a gift (maximum $10.00) to exchange. REMINDER: The Shepherds Staff Annual Thanksgiving Dinner will again be held at St. John on Thursday, Nov. 23 starting at 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. Please help St. Vincent de Paul provide canned vegetables (101 ounce cans) for this Community Thanksgiving Dinner. Items needed: green beans, whole kernel corn, sauerkraut, applesauce, cranberry sauce and instant mashed potatoes. Bring items to the school cafeteria any weekday until Nov. 21^st between the hours of 8:00 to 2:30 p.m. and on Nov. 22^nd from 2:00-7:00 p.m. Any questions call Joe Wade (410-876-2785). To request delivery of meals to the homebound or for emergency transportation to the dinner, call Shepherds Staff at 410-857-5944. There is no charge and all are welcome.

MASS AND HEALING SERVICE…Tues., Nov. 21

A Mass and healing service will be held at 7:30 pm. at St. Joseph’s Church, Eldersburg. The purpose of the service is to pray for your physical, emotional or spiritual needs.  The evening will focus on God’s healing love. After the mass you will have the opportunity to have a 2- person team pray with you about the particular needs.

 

EYEGLASS COLLECTION…Nov. 25-26

The Deer Park Lions Club is collecting used eyeglasses for recycling in developing countries.  In the past 12 months the Deer Park Lions have collected 4,000 pairs of glasses. We could not have accomplished this without the help of the parishioners of St. John’s. Look for the Lions Recycle for Sight boxes near the doors of the church on the 4th Sunday of each month.

MUSIC FOR THE CHRISTMAS SEASON…Sun., Dec. 10
