    Thank you for your very generous response to the appeal for the hurricane Katrina relief effort. Our donations have been sent to Catholic Charities USA. May God bless you for your continued and faithful support for those most in need. Let us continue to remember the victims, survivors and relief workers in our prayers.

    Congratulations and thank you to Sister Bernadette. I want to thank all who organized Sister’s party, especially Deacon Jack Coster and Gay Hart and members of our parish Health Care Ministry. It was also an opportunity for our parish to say thank you for more than 25 years of faithful service.

    I also wish to thank those who serve our parish as members and officers of the Pastoral Council. This year officers are: President, Fran Rock, Vice-President; Steve Torbeck, Recording Secretary; Peggy Rager; and Corresponding Secretary, Rosalie Gardner. Your continued cooperation is deeply appreciated.

PERPETUAL ADORATION UPDATE! The following hours have one scheduled adorer, but we would like to have at least two for each hour: Sundays – 4, 6, & 8 a.m.; and 12,1,2 & 8 p.m.; Mondays – 2 a.m.; Tuesdays – 3 & 6 a.m.; and 4 & 11 p.m.; Wednesdays – 1 & 2 a.m.; and 2 p.m.; Thursdays – 12 & 2 a.m.; and 4 p.m.; Fridays – 2 & 5 a.m., and 6 p.m.; Saturdays – 1, 2, 3 & 10 a.m.; and 1,2,3,5 & 10 p.m. Please call the parish office to fill one hour.

 

 

NOTE from the LITURGY COMMITTEE: We are in the process of mending the song hymnals in the pews. We respectfully ask that they be handled gently and please do not allow children to draw in them.

GROCERY CERTIFICATES PROGRAM: Please support the school through purchasing gift cards for Kohl’s, Boscov’s, and local grocery stores. There is no additional cost involved but the school makes 5% from all sales. They are available through the school office and before school.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES BEGIN: Tuesday, September 20^th and Thursday, September 22 for both the 4:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. sessions.

 

CATECHETICAL SUNDAY is this Sunday. We join parishes across the country as we celebrate the ministry of our parish catechists/assistants. We thank each of them for answering the call to serve and ask God’s continued blessings as together we begin a new year.

 

CONFIRMATION: Any 8^th or 9^th graders planning on participating in the Confirmation Program should now be registered. If you have not already done so, please complete your registration form and return to the Religious Education Office.

LOOKING for TEENS: Life Teen is St. John’s high school age ministry. Together as one body in the Catholic Church, we grow in holiness, have fun, and meet new friends. We go on retreats, have Life Teen nights after the 6:00 p.m. Mass and ultimately just enjoy life with Christ always as our focus. WISDOM CLUB MONTHLY MEETING … Thurs., Sept. 22

Mass will be celebrated by Msgr. Art at Noon in the Church, then back to the Portico for lunch, our meeting and guest speaker is St. John parishioner Lothar Boczek, who will present slides on 'Capitols of Europe.' Mr. Boczek gave us such a wonderful presentation in January; you are not going to want to miss this one. Please remember to bring your brown-bag lunch. Dessert and beverages will be provided. We always welcome new members.

 

MARRIAGE INVESTMENT COURSE … Beginning Sept. 24

And running through November. All married couples are welcome to join us for this five-session opportunity to strengthen your marriage and your faith. The first session features dinner at the Portico with an entertaining presentation on the interaction between different personalities in marriage. The final session is a married couples dinner date at Mt. St. Mary’s with a candlelit visit to the Grotto. CRAFTER’S FAIR & FLEA MARKET … Saturday, Oct., 1

From 7 a.m. – 3 p.m., on the St. John parking lot. Delicious food, crafts for kids, the Maryland State Police D.A.R.E. Program including the State Police helicopter and NASCAR, sponsored by the Westminster K of C #1393. Space is still available for crafters and flea-marketers. Set up begins at 5:30 a.m. Spaces 17x20 are $35 or 2 for $60. More space can be arranged if requested in advance. Spots are pre-paid and non-refundable. No rain date. WISDOM CLUB RETREAT …Thursday, October 13 

From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bon Secours Retreat House in Marriottsville. Members will meet for a day of prayer, meditation and reflection. Our moderator, Msgr. Art, has planned a very insightful message for us entitled, 'Walking with Jesus.' The price of the retreat is $25.00 and includes lunch. Transportation is by private automobile. ST. JOHN BIBLE STUDY … Beginning mid-September

THE KNIGHTS of COLUMBUS CAR RAFFLE TICKETS will be sold after Masses on this final weekend: Sept. 24/25. Proceeds benefit the K of C state scholarship fund and the local Westminster council #1393.

THE DEER PARK LIONS CLUB, will collect used eyeglasses for recycling in developing countries.
