    Welcome to our new parish secretary, Margie Conner. Margie comes to the position with a wealth of experience, a love for the Lord and the Church, and as a member of our parish. Please keep her in your prayers as she adapts to working for three priests, four deacons, the pastoral staff and 4,400 parish families. 

    Congratulations to Jean Bouvy-Weadon, the manager of the recently opened Portico of St. John Books and Gift store. She has done a wonderful job organizing our beautiful new facility. The store hours are in this week’s bulletin. The hours will be modified once we get an appreciation for what works. Please support this endeavor to make religious books and gifts available.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY ... Sunday, September 4

The 9:15 a.m. Mass will be a children’s liturgy.

 

PERPETUAL ADORATION UPDATE! The following hours have one scheduled adorer, but we would like to have at least two for each hour: Sundays – 4, 6, & 8 a.m.; and 12,1,2,3,4, & 8 p.m.; Mondays – 1,2 & 6 a.m.; and 3,4, & 9 p.m.; Tuesdays – 3 & 11 a.m.; and 4 & 11 p.m.; Wednesdays – 1 & 2 a.m.; and 2 & 10 p.m.; Thursdays – 12,1 & 2 a.m.; and 12,4, & 9 p.m.; Fridays – 2 a.m., and 6 & 9 p.m.; Saturdays – 1, 2 & 3 a.m.; and 12,1,2,3,4 & 10 p.m. Please call the parish office to fill one hour.

EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 5, 2005, there will be a change in the weekday Mass schedule. The normal weekday schedule will be 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday morning Mass will remain at 8:00 a.m. During civic holidays (Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day), the parish will offer one parish Mass at 9:30 a.m. The changes to the normal weekday Mass schedule will allow the school children and families to participate in daily liturgies, allow more time for private devotions and personal prayers between the morning Masses, and it also gives our parishioners a chance to avoid the morning rush hour commute. Should you have any questions about this, please speak with one of the priests or pastoral staff members. This Monday, September 5, Labor Day, is a civic holiday. Please remember only one Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.

 

CHILDREN'S CHOIR is looking for singers! The children's choir is for students in the 4th grade and up. The choir sings at the 5:00 p.m. Saturday Liturgy on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. Required rehearsals are Monday nights in the church, 7-8 p.m. To join, please, call Mrs. Jane Schmidt at 410-840-8616.

 

OUR PARISH IS SEEKING an experienced organist/keyboard musician to provide music for funerals. This person will serve as the primary musician for funerals at St. John. Availability and flexibility are key, as are musical skill and awareness of the liturgical principles of sacred music in the context of funeral Masses. GROCERY CERTIFICATES PROGRAM: Please support the school through purchasing gift cards for Kohl’s, Boscov’s, and local grocery stores. There is no additional cost involved but the school makes 5% from all sales. They are available through the school office and before school.

HOME STUDY PARENT MEETING … Wed., September 14

At 6:45 p.m. in the Portico. Classes for students begin on Wednesday, October 5^th at 6:45 p.m.

 

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES BEGIN: Tuesday, September 20^th and Thursday, September 22 for both the 4:30 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. sessions.

CONFIRMATION: Any 8^th or 9^th graders planning on participating in the Confirmation Program should now be registered. If you have not already done so, please complete your registration form and return to the Religious Education Office.

LOOKING for TEENS: Life Teen is St. John’s high school age ministry. Together as one body in the Catholic Church we grow in holiness, have fun, and meet new friends. We go on retreats, have Life Teen nights after the 6:00 p.m. Mass and ultimately just enjoy life with Christ always as our focus. WISDOM CLUB RETREAT …Thursday, October 13 

From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bon Secours Retreat House in Marriottsville. Members will meet for a day of prayer, meditation and reflection. Our moderator, Msgr. Art, has planned a very insightful message for us entitled, 'Walking with Jesus.' The price of the retreat is $25.00 and includes lunch. Transportation is by private automobile. CURSILLO WEEKEND RETREATS: If you are looking for an authentic Catholic lay spiritual retreat, consider participating in the Cursillo Movement of Baltimore. Grow in discipleship to Christ Jesus by attending a weekend experience. Men’s weekend is October 27 - 30. GRIEVING? St. John is offering a 9-week spiritually-based program for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Facilitators are trained and using a book entitled “The New Day.” Meetings will be Wednesdays from 7:15 – 9:00 p.m. in the St. Theresa Room, beginning September 7^th – November 2. THE KNIGHTS of COLUMBUS CAR RAFFLE TICKETS will be sold after Masses on the following weekends: Sept. 10/11, and Sept. 24/25. Proceeds benefit the K of C state scholarship fund and the local Westminster council #1393.

 

MEMORIAL BRICKS: The bricks from the September – February campaign have been engraved and delivered. Due to scheduling conflicts, the bricks will not be put into the sidewalk until the end of August.
