From the Pastor

Please join me in expressing appreciation to all our liturgical ministers who throughout the year and especially during the summer months have faithfully served our parish. Despite the challenges of summer schedules and weather, they (altar servers, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, lectors, music ministers, ushers, sacristans, art and environment and altar society) continue to serve the Lord and our parish. Thank you for your commitment and dedication.

I also thank Scott Link who has been our parish Youth Minister for his outstanding work and service to the youth of our parish. Because he will be moving to Pittsburgh, he has resigned his position. I pray that God will continue to bless him as he begins his new career. Welcome to Marty Link (Scott’s brother) who is our new Youth Minister. Marty is a graduate of our parish school, Calvert Hall and the University of Steubenville.

    May God bless you,

Liturgy & Worship

PERPETUAL ADORATION!! The following hours have one scheduled adorer, but we would like to have at least two for each hour: Sundays – 4, 6, & 8 a.m.; and 12,1,2,3,4, & 8 p.m.; Mondays – 1,2,6,9 & 11 a.m.; and 3,4, & 9 p.m.; Tuesdays – 3 & 11 a.m.; and 4,9 & 11 p.m.; Wednesdays – 1 & 2 a.m.; and 2 p.m.; Thursdays – 12,1 & 2 a.m.; and 4,8 & 9 p.m.; Fridays – 2 & 11 a.m., and 6 & 9 p.m.; Saturdays – 2 & 3 a.m.; and 12,1,2,3,4 & 10 p.m. Please call the parish office to fill one hour.

EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 5, 2005, there will be a change in the weekday Mass schedule. The normal weekday schedule will be 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday morning Mass will remain at 8:00 a.m. During civic holidays (Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day), the parish will offer one parish Mass at 9:30 a.m. The changes to the normal weekday Mass schedule will allow the school children and families to participate in daily liturgies, allow more time for private devotions and personal prayers between the morning Masses, and it also gives our parishioners a chance to avoid the morning rush hour commute. Should you have any questions about this, please speak with one of the priests or pastoral staff members.

CHILDREN'S CHOIR is looking for singers! The children's choir is for students in the 4th grade and up. The choir sings at the 5:00 p.m. Saturday Liturgy on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month. Required rehearsals are Monday nights in the church, 7-8 p.m. To join, please, call Mrs. Jane Schmidt at 410-840-8616.

OUR PARISH IS SEEKING an experienced organist/keyboard musician to provide music for funerals. This person will serve as the primary musician for funerals at St. John. Availability and flexibility are key, as are musical skill and awareness of the liturgical principles of sacred music in the context of funeral Masses. For more information, and/or to apply, please contact Regina McCurdy at 410-876-3850 (home), 410-591-5992 (cell) or frk@qis.net.

SPECIAL COLLECTION August 6th and 7th

Is for the Catholic Communications Campaign and Catholic University of America annual collection. Thank you for your continued generosity.

WILL YOU? Many people think about making a will at one time or another during their lifetime. Yet, it is estimated that up to 70% of Americans leave their estate without having made a will. A will allows you to control how your loved ones are provided for after your death. Every person should have a will appropriate for their individual circumstances. Through a will you can distribute your property as you choose; appoint your own executor; provide for trusts and perhaps even provide for your church or favorite ministry. A gift to St John, for example, establishes a lasting legacy of love for others by enabling us to continue the preservation and expansion of our Catholic heritage through our many ministries. Please make St John a part of your planned giving option.
