From the Pastor

I would like to offer a couple of reminders and a few suggestions to consider this summer. Next Sunday, July 17th, Father Brian Nolan will celebrate the 11:15 a.m. Mass and a reception will follow in the Portico. It is our opportunity to thank him for his ministry to our parish and wish him well as he begins his new assignment at St. Jane Frances parish.  If you have an opportunity to visit another parish, please get me a copy of the bulletin. I am always looking for good ideas.

If this year is a “stay home vacation,” you may consider weekday Mass. It is a wonderful way to start your day. This could be the time to become a regular adorer in our Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Praying the rosary while driving is much safer than talking on the cell phone. Please remember that blessed pasta is always best.

                May God bless you,

PARISH SECRETARY POSITION AVAILABLE: Qualifications for this full-time position, to begin in August, include: an understanding and appreciation of the Catholic Faith; a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, and general computer skills; a high level of detail orientations and accuracy, good communication and organization skills; and a desire to serve. Primary duties will include production of the weekly bulletin, scheduling of the campus facilities and service to parishioners. Please send resume to Msgr. Art Valenzano by July 15th.

THANK YOU, FR. BRIAN: As Fr. Brian Nolan moves on to his new assignment at the parish of St. Jane Frances de Chantal in Pasadena, MD, we thank him for the many blessings he has brought to the parish and parishioners of St. John. On this occasion, a “purse” (collection) has been set up for anyone desiring to show their appreciation to Fr. Brian in the form of a monetary gift to be presented to him at the reception following his final Mass at St. John on July 17th. Registered parishioners will receive, this week, an envelope for this purpose in the summer parish mailing, or contributions may be made in the parish office. Thank you.

From The Archdiocese

THE ARCHDIOCESE of BALTIMORE is committed to providing a safe environment for children and youth in our parishes, schools, and institutions. We believe that the protection of children and youth entrusted to the Church’s care is of paramount importance.

Any person who is a victim of abuse or suspects abuse by Church personnel is strongly encouraged to come forward and report the abuse to the Archdiocese of Baltimore; The report should be made to the Victims Assistance Coordinator at 1-866-417-7496. The Archdiocese cooperates fully with civil authorities, and state law requires anyone who has reason to believe that child abuse has occurred to make a report to the local department of social services.

When victims of abuse come forward, the Archdiocese is able to provide appropriate outreach in the form of pastoral care and counseling. Pastoral care and counseling is extended to those who were abused in the past, even though the abuse may have happened years ago and without regard to legal liability. Victims coming forward also enable the Archdiocese to remove those from ministry who are credibly accused of abuse. The Archdiocese’s policies regarding child abuse are available at www.archbalt.org or by calling the Catholic Center.

Every day in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, hundreds of dedicated priests, staff members and volunteers work to provide quality pastoral care for children and youth. We are grateful for the healthy ministry they provide. And we will continue to work to produce a healthy and nurturing environment for our children and youth.
