From the Pastor

    Please join me in welcoming Father John Robbins to our parish as our new Associate Pastor.  I realize that many of you remember Father John when he spent his pastoral year and deacon year with us a few years ago. Several people have asked if he is the same person that Father Bob Morey referred to as our “Rocket Scientist.” Yes he is, and the reference was to Father Robbins previous profession when he worked at NASA. He is now working full time helping us get our souls to heaven. Father Robbins officially began his new assignment with us this past Friday. 

    I also invite you to welcome to our pastoral staff our new Middle School Religious Education/Youth Minister, Katy Harris. Katy comes to our parish from Holy Trinity parish in Glen Burnie.  She graduated from Hood College this year and has completed her certification as a Youth Minister with the Archdiocese. She will introduce herself to the parish at the weekend Masses this summer.

THANK YOU, FR. BRIAN: As Fr. Brian Nolan moves on to his new assignment at the parish of St. Jane Frances de Chantal in Pasadena, MD, we thank him for the many blessings he has brought to the parish and parishioners of St. John. On this occasion, a “purse” (collection) has been set up for anyone desiring to show their appreciation to Fr. Brian in the form of a monetary gift to be presented to him at the reception following his final Mass at St. John on July 17^th. Registered parishioners will receive, this week, an envelope for this purpose in the summer parish mailing, or contributions may be made in the parish office. Thank you.

School News

THE ST. JOHN SCHOOL CLASS LISTS will be placed on the lobby windows sometime during the week of July 11th, 2005.  Also, the Parent Packet Pick-up date will be on Tuesday, August 9^th from 9:00 a.m. – 12 noon & 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. in the school office. If parents cannot get here on that day, perhaps they could have a friend, relative or neighbor pick it up for them.

From 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Portico. July is a very critical month for blood shortages, so we ask all eligible donors to sign up for an appointment. Each pint of blood can help 3 people. Jesus shed His blood for us; let us help those in need!

 

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL CLINIC … July 12,13,14 & 19,20,21

From 7 – 9 p.m. in the school gym: Coach Becky Martin will hold her annual clinic for girls in grades 5-9. This clinic is designed to help girls improve their basketball skills as individuals and team players through individual instruction, drills, and team play. SCOTT HAHN at ST. JOHN … Saturday, September 17

Mark your calendar now! Noted author Scott Hahn will visit our parish and give three talks. Check the bulletin for information.

 

ALTAR SERVER INFORMATION:  During the Month of July, ALL altar servers (new and current) are asked to report 1/2 hour before each weekend Mass in order to review the changes and to encourage any new altar server. The MC's for that Mass will offer that review. As a way to thank the Altar Server and parents, please join us for a Picnic with games and swimming on Sunday August 14, 2005 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at a local community pool. There will be more information to come, but please hold the date! 

 

CATHOLIC MEDICAL ASSOCIATION: This national group of physicians has organized a Guild Chapter in Baltimore. They work to uphold the principles of Catholic Faith and morality as related to the science and practice of medicine. Fr. Leo is an associate chaplain for this group, and he encourages all physicians in the parish to pick up information at the pamphlet rack, or to call him at the parish office for details on upcoming events and conferences.

 

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR DONATIONS will not be accepted until September 1^st due to construction in the basement. Please watch the bulletin this fall for donation information.

 

CURSILLO WEEKEND RETREATS: If you are looking for an authentic Catholic lay spiritual retreat, consider participating in the Cursillo Movement of Baltimore. Grow in discipleship to Christ Jesus by attending a weekend experience. Men’s weekend is Nov. 3 - 6. LANDFILL PERMITS: Carroll County residents receiving their Carroll County property tax bill also receive two landfill-use coupons. If you have no use for your coupons, your donations of those coupons to St. John Church would be greatly appreciated.

 

MARY MARTHA MINISTRY the name chosen for the new bereavement ministry is ready to offer luncheons or desserts after funerals beginning on July 15^th in the Portico.

Vocations/Archdiocese

TRAVELING CHALICE PROGRAM: Each week a St. John family receives the chalice and the commission at Mass to pray for vocations. To sign up, call Mrs. Hopkins at 410-857-5487.
