From the Pastor

    Many of you have noticed that we have been praying for Sister Bernadette in the Prayer of the Faithful for the past several weeks. Medical tests have established that Sister has a brain tumor. Further tests will enable Sister and her doctors to determine the treatment that will be pursued. Sister Bernadette was originally assigned to our parish to teach kindergarten in our parish school. During Msgr. Joe’s time as pastor, he asked Sister to start what has become the Health Care Ministry at our parish. Through the years Sister has continued to develop the ministry and enable the volunteers to attend to the spiritual and physical needs of parishioners who are: homebound, living in one of the area nursing homes/assisted living facilities, patients in Carroll Hospital Center, receiving hospice care or simply in need of a pastoral visit. Sister needs our prayers now. Among the many blessing that Health Care Ministry has brought to our parishioners is an awareness to keep the sick and those facing life-threatening illness in our prayers.

PERPETUAL ADORATION – YOUR OPPORTUNITY to SPEND TIME with the LORD. We currently have two Adoration hours with no scheduled adorer and are being covered by substitutes; Monday 1 a.m. to 2 a.m. and Thursday 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. If you are willing to adopt one of these hours, please call the Parish Center. The following hours have one scheduled adorer but we would like to have at least one more for each hour: Sundays – Midnight, 2,3, & 8 a.m.; and 12 noon & 6 p.m.; Mondays – 1, 2 & 11 a.m.; Tuesdays – 3 & 7 a.m. and 1 & 11 p.m.; Wednesdays – 1,2 & 3 a.m. and 3 p.m.; Thursdays – 2 a.m. and 12:00 noon, 1 & 3 p.m.; Fridays – 12 midnight, 2&3 a.m., and 12 noon & 1 p.m.; Saturdays – 1,2 & 3 a.m.; and 1,2,3,9  & 10 p.m. Please call the parish office if you can fill one hour.

GROCERY CERTIFICATES & GIFT CARDS may be purchased in the parish office during the summer months on Monday – Friday, from 9 – 12:00 noon.

 

CONGRATULATIONS to the Students whose artwork was selected for display at the Carroll County Arts Council. The art will be displayed on the 2^nd floor until the first week of August.

 

YEARBOOK PICTURES: Anyone who placed an ad with pictures, may pick up their pictures at school on Wednesdays between 9 a.m. and 12 noon.

10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY: During the weekend of July 24 – 25, Life Teen will kick off its 10-year anniversary! On Saturday, July 24^th, young adults are invited to join us for talks, a coffee house, and an evening of praise and worship. Sunday, July 25^th focuses on our teens, and they will have a chance to hear some great talks, have a picnic, and gather for the 6:00 p.m. Mass with Bishop Bennett. PAINTBALL with THE EDGE … Friday, July 16

From 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. The Edge is going to Paintball Adventure Park in Taneytown! The cost is $35 for 500 paintballs and safety gear. If you have equipment then you must call to get the prices depending on what you have. Call Scott to sign-up. We will meet there.

At 7:00 p.m. in the parish hall (old church). Have you or someone you know been divorced but never went through the Church’s annulment process? Do you have questions regarding this important topic? There are many misconceptions about annulments. Fr. Gil Seitz from the Archdiocese of Baltimore will be here to explain the process and answer your questions.

 

K of C ANNUAL GOLF OUTING … Friday, August 20

At the Links at Gettysburg. Fee per player is $100 before July 22 and $125 after. Registration closes August 6. All proceeds go to St. John Youth Ministry. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE AN ALTAR SERVER? There is still time to sign up. New servers must participate in two 1½ hour training sessions. The last training session Saturday, July 17, at 8:45 a.m. If you are in the 5^th grade or older, and would like to minister to the Lord and St. John’s parish by serving at the altar, please pick up a sign-up sheet at the front desk of the parish office, and return it at the practice session.
