From the Pastor

    Next Sunday, July 27th, Deacon Michael DeAscanis will complete his pastoral internship assignment in our parish. Deacon Michael will return to the North American College in Rome to continue his seminary formation and will be ordained to the priesthood next summer. Please join me in expressing both appreciation for his ministry during his time with us, and assuring him of our continued prayers as he continues his formation.

    Also coming next weekend “Snowballs in July.” After the 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. Masses next Saturday, and following the 10:30, 12 Noon and 6:00 p.m. Masses on Sunday, parishioners are invited to enjoy a flavored snowball of your choice on the lawn near the front doors of the church. I invite you to enjoy fellowship with our pastoral staff, have an opportunity to wish Deacon Michael farewell and cool off with our parish families.

ST. JOHN PTF ANNUAL FLEA MARKET Sat., Sept. 13

From 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the church parking lot. Spend the day selling your household items, crafts, hobbies, etc. or just stop by for shopping and lunch. TEACHERS AND CLASSROOM ASSISTANTS NEEDED: The religious Education Program is in need of at least 12 teachers, several assistants, and teachers for the Home Study program (which meets on the first Wednesday of each month), this coming school year. If you feel called to share your faith with the young people of our parish, please call the Religious Education Office to find out where you can help.

 

REGISTRATION REMINDER: Please make sure that you have registered you children for this coming school year. Classes have limited space so don’t delay. Call the Religious Ed. Office for a registration form.

LIFE NIGHT – CHINESE FOOD NIGHT Sunday, July 20

After the 6:00 p.m. Mass we are going to dinner at Forbidden City for Chinese Food! (This means we will be leaving campus and walking down to the shopping center at the bottom of the hill.) You will need to bring about $10 – $15 for food.

 

SIX FLAGS TRIP Tuesday, July 22

The Edge and Life Teen will leave St. John at 8:30 a.m. and return approximately 10:00 p.m. The cost is $36 per person and includes the bus and the ticket into the park. We must fill a bus in order to go, so please call Andrea, Jordan, or Paul in the Religious Ed. Office to sign up.

 

OCEAN CITY TRIP Thursday, July 31

Grab your bathing suit and towel because we will be spending the day at O.C. The cost is $26 per person. We will leave St. John at 6:45 a.m. and return approximately 9:45 p.m. Bring money for food, a change of clothes and all your beach gear! Call the Religious Ed. Office to sign up.

 

 

WATER OLYMPICS Sunday, August 3

After the 6:00 p.m. Mass, we will have the annual Water Olympics. Please bring a change of clothes because you are guaranteed to get Wet!

 

FREDERICK KEYS GAME Wednesday, August 6

We are going to a Keys Game that will have fireworks afterward! We will leave St. John by 6:00 p.m. and return at 11:00 p.m. the Cost is $5.75 per person. We need adults to drive because we are carpooling.

MISSING LUGGAGE from STEUBENVILLE? We have acquired a large number of items left on the busses from the Steubenville trip. If you left a sleeping bag, pillow or other items, please pick them up from the Religious Ed. Office this week. Items not picked up will be given to St. Vincent de Paul Society.

MUSIC MINISTRY Meet and GreetSESSION July 19/20

After all Masses, St. John Music Ministry is looking for musicians skilled in playing any type of instrument, especially flute, violin, trumpet and guitar, as well as vocalists. BASIC TRAINING for CATHOLICS Mon., July 21

At 7:00 p.m. in the parish center. Seminarian Tyson and Deacon Michael will explore the pillars of the Catholic Faith from the Catechism of the Catholic Church. Each session will stand alone; don’t worry if you miss a session.

 

BAPTISMAL MINISTRY MEETING Tuesday, July 22

A SNO-BALL for ALL! The weekend of July 26th & 27th

The priests of St. John want to offer a small but sweet token of appreciation to the parish. The priests are serving Free Sno-balls on Saturday, July 26 after the 4:30 & 6:30 p.m. Masses, and on Sunday, July 27 after the 10:30 a.m., 12:00 noon, and 6:00 p.m. Masses. Mingle a while after these Masses to meet the priests and enjoy a treat! The priests thank all members of our parish family for their mutual support, praying and working to draw one another to heaven.

A book and video detailing the history of St. John parish is scheduled for release and will be available to all parishioners.

 

SESQUICENTENNIAL YEAR CLOSING MASS Sat., Dec. 27

On the Feast Day of our patron Saint. Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Malooly at 6:30 p.m. A reception will follow in the gym.

HELP NEEDED for ALTAR SERVERS: If you are able to volunteer a few hours a month to assist in cleaning and maintaining the vestments used by the Altar Servers, please call Dottie Cole at 410-751-9019.

 

CURSILLO WEEKEND RETREATS: If you are looking for authentic Catholic lay spiritual retreats, consider participating in the Cursillo Movement of Baltimore. Fr. Leo is the spiritual director for this movement and invites you to grow in discipleship by coming to a weekend experience. The Men’s weekend is on October 9-12, and the Women’s is on October 16-19. MASS SURVEY: All registered parishioners should have received a Mass Survey in their summer mailing, suggesting new Mass times for our parish. Please know that this is only a study but your participation is very helpful. If you did not get this survey please pick one up in the narthex of the church. Vocations

NEEDED FAMILIES for our TRAVELING CHALICE PROGRAM: Each week a St. John family receives the chalice and the commission at Mass to pray for an increase in the priestly and religious vocations during that week. Jesus said “Beg the Harvest Master for more Laborers.” Sign up now to have your family receive the chalice for one week over the next six months.
