ST. VINCENT de PAUL MEETING … Wed., September 11

At 7:00 p.m. in the parish center. Frederick Ozanam founded the St. Vincent de Paul Society in 1933. It is an international Catholic organization of laypersons who seek, in the spirit of justice and charity, to help those in need. If you are interested in learning more, please come to this meeting.

 

ATTENTION MEMBERS: Mark your calendars for 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, September 29^th which is St. Vincent de Paul Day in the Archdiocese. We look forward to seeing all members at the September 11 meeting and at this Mass.

 

THE GABRIEL PROJECT monthly fund raiser at Cactus Willies in Westminster is scheduled for September 23 (for lunch and dinner). Just say you want your dinner proceeds to go to the Gabriel Project. Gabriel Project extends a loving welcome to any woman and unborn child in need, in Jesus’ name. Any woman may call the 24-hour hotline at 1-800-533-0093.

ST. FRANCIS, “Troubadour of God’s Peace”… Fri., Sept. 20

At 7:30 p.m. in the St. John School gym. Inspiring actor Leonardo Defilippis will once again come to St. John to perform his one-man play on the life of St. Francis. Barefoot and clad in a ragged gray tunic, Leonardo brings to life St. Francis, “the little poor man of Assisi,” whose holiness and faith continue after 800 years to draw men and women to a more perfect imitation of Christ. WISDOM CLUB MONTHLY MEETING … Thurs., Sept. 26

Please note: Meeting will be held at Carroll Lutheran Village. Luncheon will be provided by the staff of the Village, therefore, we will need an approximate count of those members attending. Mass will be celebrated at 12 Noon in the Chapel – Msgr. Art presiding. Parking will be on the Chapel lot or carpooling will be available for members unfamiliar with the location. UPCOMING BUS TRIPS this fall and Christmas: Two trips you won’t want to miss! Get yourself in the mood for the holidays by visiting Williamsburg Pottery and Colonial Williamsburg on Saturday, October 19. We’ll take some time for shopping at Williamsburg Pottery and then spend the afternoon at Colonial Williamsburg. And New York City! On Saturday, December 14, see a show, do some Christmas shopping, visit the Met…the day is yours. PLEASE SEARCH your FAMILY PHOTO ALBUMS for photos showing members of your family and other St. John parishioners and groups participating in parish activities and ministries. Decades-old or recent photos depicting St. John history may be in drawers and closets. Please share them with us for a short period of time to help document and preserve our history in a book to be published and available to parishioners in 2003. If needed, we will pick up your photos. DEDICATION COMMITTEE MEETING … Tuesday, Sept. 3

Preparations are beginning for the day our new church is dedicated in September, 2003. Parishioners wishing to share their expertise in the areas of liturgy and preparation of the booklet commemorating the day are asked to attend this 7:30 p.m. meeting.

 

ST. JOHN ALUMNI: We need to hear from graduates of St. John High School or Grade School. We are planning a giant celebration for all St. John Alumni and we need your help in locating them. Photographs of St. John parishioners and their families will be taken on St. John campus during the weeks of October 28, November 4 & November 11, and on Saturday, November 9, for the 2003 Pictorial Directory. Photographs from these sittings may be purchased. Sittings will be approximately 20 minutes in length, and will be scheduled from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays. More details will follow.

HOLY HOUR for VOCATIONS… Tuesday, September 3

At 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, Blessed Sacrament Chapel. All are invited to pray for an increase in vocations to the diocesan priesthood, religious life and permanent diaconate, and to pray that those called to serve might joyously recognize and graciously respond to God’s call. Holy Hour for Vocations will be held each month on the first Tuesday. Upcoming dates include October 1 and November 5. Join us!
